Five Arrested in Fraud case, 4 Trucks Seized

Mangluru: Five persons have been arrested in tempering number plates of trucks and obtaining loans from various banks by the Barke police PSI Narendra, ASI Prakash K and team Near the Warehouse Junction, Barke”, said the police commissioner Chandra Sekhar in a press meet held at his office here on November 29.

The arrested have been identified as Anil Kiran Noronha, a resident of Kulshekar, Sudheer from Maroli, Naveen Noronha from Ulaibettu, Valerian D’Souza from Pavoor and Jabbar from Bantwal.

Addressing the mediapersons Chandra Sekhar said, “On November 29, morning at around 5:00 am, when the police sub-inspector of Barke Station along with ASI Prakash and team were checking the vehicles, a truck bearing registration number KA 19 AB 6078, was stopped by the police for checking. While inspecting the vehicle, the police asked for documents which the driver was unable to present, the driver could not even provide proper information on their trip and the place they were heading to. The Police getting suspicious checked the cabin of the truck and found a green colour school bag containing Engine and chassis number tampering tools. Three persons in the truck were taken into custody. During interrogation, the police uncovered a racket involved in obtaining bank loans by fraud.

The Police commissioner further said, “The arrested Kiran is a driver by profession, Sudheer has sand mining business, Jabbar and Valerian run their own Garages. The general modus operandi is, they buy second-hand trucks and borrow loan from banks. After obtaining the loan, they change the engine and Chasis number and create fake documents. Based on the new engine and chassis number they again take a loan from another bank. This is the general modus operandi, we have found four trucks in their possession. They have already taken a loan of Rs 93.94 lakh. The first loan was taken from the Canara Bank while buying the new truck.

Navin has taken the loan from Syndicate bank for KA19 AA 7043. Once they borrow loan they change the vehicle number. Kiran has obtained a loan for Truck bearing registration no KA 19 AB 5353 from the Canara bank and later changed the vehicle registration number to KA 19 AB 6078 and got the loan from Milagres Credit Sauharda Co-operative Ltd. The Truck with registration number KA 19 AB 5353, the number was changed to KA 07 A 8215 to obtain a second loan from the Milagres Credit Sauharda Co-operative Ltd, Another Truck bearing number KA 19 AA 7043 was changed to KA 19 AB 3531, Truck number KA 19 AA 8418 was changed to KA 29 AB 4514 and yet another truck KA 19 AA 7316 was changed to KA 19 AB 7311 and loan was obtained from the Milagres Credit Sauharda Co-operative Ltd. For all the four trucks, the second loan was taken taken from the Milagres Credit Sauharda Co-operative Ltd. We will form a special team to investigate this case with the cooperation from the bank authorities”.

The police commissioner also announced a cash reward and appreciation certificate to the police involved in the operation. DCP law and order Shantharaju, DCP crime and traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil and ACP Uday Nayak were also present.
