Five with Lethal Weapons Arrested at Gundya – Qualis Car Seized
Puttur: Probationary assistant superintendent of police Laxman Nimbargi IPS, who is currently holding the charge of Uppinangady police station, held a media meet in his office on Tuesday evening.
He gave the details of the arrest of a gang which was arrested by a team under his supervision. The police team had gone to the spot where a family travelling in a car had been waylaid and robbed on late Monday night.
Around 3 am on Tuesday, they learnt that the gang was on its way from Nellyadi to Gundya in a green-coloured Qualis car bearing Himachal Pradesh registration. When the police ordered the vehicle to stop, it went ahead and stopped at a distance.
There appeared to be seven persons in the car. As the car stopped, two of them are said to have escaped. While the other five were trying to flee, they were caught.
Materials like chilli powder and lethal weapons, intended for robbery, were found in the car. The vehicle and materials, estimated to be of value Rs 4.92 lakh, were seized.
The seizure included Rs 69,500 in cash, six mobile phone, five knives, two machetes, five flashlights, a single-barrel gun, two sachets of chilli powder, a cartridge, monkey caps and others.
The arrested men are Abdul Kader (42) of Kadavinabagilu in Ilantila village, Abdulrahman (34) of Kantadka in Alike village, Abubakar (60) of Okkettur in Vittal village, Adrama (34) of Kantadka and Muhammed Kabir (51) of Kote in Uppinangady village.
The two men who escaped are Muhammed Puttu and Ibrahim of Vittal. A search is in progress for them.
