Five Operating ‘Coorg Call-girls’ Website Arrested
Madikeri: Five persons operating a website called ‘Coorg Call-girls’ with fake offers of sex services were arrested the DCIB police in Kushalnagar.
Their targets were visitors and tourists from outside the district, besides locals. District’s supeintendent of police Rajendra Prasad, speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, said that the gang in fact had no girls at their disposal.
They only offered appointments online, and once the clients arrived, they were literally taken for a ride in vehicles and fleeced.
The arrested persons are N Venugopal (32) of Kushalnagar, C S Jayachandra (29) of 7th Hoskote, Abdul Kareem (21) of Sakleshpur in Hassan, S Sharat Kumar (27) and M U Mustafa (35) of Gummanakolli.
The matter came to the attention when a resident of the district complained to the police that the website had cheated him. He had called a mobile number published in the website and he was asked to come to Suntikoppa.
When they took him in a car towards Kushalnagar, the client got suspicious and told the gang that he was not interested in any girl. The gang looted him of cash amount of RS 11,500 he had on him as well as his mobile phone.
Two more persons involved in the fake sex service offers are yet to be arrested. The police suspected that a large number of people may have been similarly cheated and looted.
They are tracking down the call details record to nab others. The public have been requested not to fall a prey to such fake offers.
The SP also said that the next target would be homestays where undesirable activities took place in the name of tourism.
A homestay owner who has an established set-up with tourism packages said that hundreds of homestays had mushroomed in different corners of the district. A control over them was necessary. Many of them could be unauthorized, he said.
He also expressed his outrage over the name of the said website ‘Coorg Call-girls’ which had the potential of bringing a bad name to the Kodava womanhood. The persons involved should be severely dealt with, he demanded.
