Flash flood victim nine-year-old girl Nidhi Acharya’s body found
Udupi: The body of Nidhi Acharya, who was washed away in a flash flood in Padubidri on May 29, was found 100 meters away from where she was washed away on Wednesday.
Nidhi Acharya (9), a student of SBVP School in Padubidri, along with her elder sister, Nisha Acharya, were going on a bicycle from their school to their house in Padebettu village at around 4:30 pm. The school had closed earlier on Tuesday as the district administration had declared a holiday.
As the fields around were flooded with water due to heavy rain, the road and a small bridge on which they were passing by was also flooded. Their cycle was caught in the strong currents of the flood.
Both the sisters fell into the water and were being carried away by the flood. Nisha Acharya was rescued by locals who had witnessed the incident. But Nidhi Acharya was washed away by the flood water. Later on Wednesday morning, a rescue team retrieved her body.
Udupi Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis visited the accident spot and announced componsation of Rs 4 lac for the Nidhi’s family.
