FMMCH Inaugurates New Floor to Enhance Medical Education and Patient Care

Mangalore: On the 23rd of September, 2024, Father Muller Medical College Hospital celebrated the inauguration and blessing of an additional third floor to the Outpatient Department (OPD) building, marking yet another milestone in its commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure. The ceremony, held at 4 PM, was presided over by Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), with the ribbon cutting followed by a blessing of the new facilities.

The event commenced with Ms. Yashmitha, a lecturer and physicist from the Department of Radiotherapy, serving as the emcee. In his address, Rev. Fr Coelho praised the swift and efficient completion of the project, attributing its success to the dedicated efforts of Rev. Fr Ajith B Menezes, Administrator of FMMC, FMCOAHS, and FMCOP, who oversaw the construction. He acknowledged the importance of the new statues of Saints Joachim and Anne, the patron saints of the institution, installed in honor of their guidance and protection.

Rev. Fr Coelho emphasized the institution’s ongoing mission to provide top-notch facilities for its students, doctors, staff, and patients. “FMCI has once again delivered a gift to the community, contributing to the betterment of people through the healing ministry of God and spreading goodwill,” he remarked.

Rev. Fr Ajith expressed his gratitude to the welders, construction workers, and everyone involved in completing the project. He also highlighted the attention to architectural detail, noting that wood repurposed from old campus structures was used to maintain the building’s historic aesthetic, particularly in crafting the elegant curved windows.

Dr. Sandesh Rao B, Associate Professor of the Department of Radiotherapy, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all those present, including members of the clergy and the management committee.

The newly inaugurated floor is designed with cutting-edge facilities to serve both students and patients. It features air-conditioned classrooms equipped with smart boards, specifically for postgraduate students in General Medicine, Urology, Nephrology, and Radiotherapy. These versatile classrooms can accommodate 250 people, with the option to expand the space to hold up to 500 attendees through the use of folding doors.

A dedicated Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre has also been established on this floor, offering comprehensive treatment, care, and support for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). In addition, the floor houses a counseling room and center, further enhancing the hospital’s support services for both patients and staff.

The inauguration marks a significant upgrade in the hospital’s capacity to educate future healthcare professionals and provide compassionate care to the community. Father Muller Medical College continues to uphold its mission of serving humanity with faith, compassion, and excellence in healthcare.
