Football tutorial by Papu Gomez in Atalanta’s 4-0 win over Frosinone
Bergamo (Italy): An outstanding performance by Argentinian forward Alejandro “Papu” Gomez, who scored two goals and provided two assists, handed Atalanta an easy 4-0 win over Frosinone in their opening match of the Italian Serie A season.
Gomez, who had not scored at home since December 30, 2017, on Monday sank the first and final tallies of the game and dealt Dutchman Hans Hateboer and Croatian Mario Pasalic two great centering shots to crush the recently-promoted Frosinone, reports Efe.
After an initial scare in the 11th minute, when Frosinone striker Camillo Ciano fired one into the post, Atalanta took off with Gomez leading the way, nabbing his first goal on a left-footed shot in the 14th minute.
The home team, playing their fifth official match of the season, having begun their season on July 26 with the early phase of the Europa League, were more prepared athletically and didn’t give Frosinone a chance.
It was Gomez on the assist in the 48th minute and the 61st minute, helping out Hateboer and Pasalic with two perfect left-footed centering shots to set up the tallies.
The former Arsenal Sarandi and San Lorenzo player, in extra time, was also able to swoop in for the 4-0 goal.
“We’re very happy with this win. In the past few years we’ve had a bit of a hard time at the start, but this year we’re in better physical condition,” the 30-year-old Argentinian international was quoted as saying by football-italia.net.
“Today I reached 50 Serie A goals, and that was an important objective for me.”
