For Men Only! Over 200 Males get Free Screening for Prostatic Diseases at KMC

Mangaluru: It was busy morning for a bevy of Doctors of Urology department at Kasturba Medical College Hospital- Dr Ambedkar Circle/Jyothi Circle, Mangaluru who had a hectic time interacting with over 200 men, ranging from 40 years and above, including seniors who had converged at the Urology department premises for the Fee Screening of Prostatic Diseases,which was held this morning (Time: 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.) at KMC Hospitals, Dr B R Ambedkar / Jyothi Circle, Mangaluru. Men above the age of 40 years with or without the Symptoms like scalding urination, straining to pass urine, frequent urination, urinary incontinence, sense of incomplete urination, blood in urine, lower backache etc showed up for The Free Screening camp which included Consultation, Digital Rectal Examination, Uroflowmetry, Ultrasound, Counselling & PSA Blood Test. This Camp was organized in order to raise awareness on prostatic diseases among men, wherein the Urology Department at KMC conducted free screening camp at its premises.

Prior to the Free Screening/check-Up a formal inaugural function was held, where the Camp was inaugurated by Superintendent and DMO of Govt Wenlock Hospital-Mangaluru Dr.H.S. Rajeshwari Devi by lighting the lamp, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Dr Anand Venugopal- Medical Superintendent-KMC Hospitals, Mangaluru; Dr GG Laxman Prabhu-HOD, Dept of Urology, KMC Hospitals; Dr P Venugopal-Professor Emeritus, Dept of Urology, KMC Hospitals; Saghir Siddiq- Regional COO, KMC Hospitals; and Dr Sanman-Dept of Urology.

Addressing the gathering in her inaugural address, Dr Rajeshwari Devi said, “What is screening? Screening is looking for cancer before a person has any symptoms. This can help find cancer at an early stage or any other Prostatic diseases. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread. All of you men who have come here for the screening have taken the right decision to check any prostatic disease symptoms before they become more worse and then hard to treat. If you go for regular check up, follow the diet, regular exercises, healthy lifestyle then you don’t have to worry about Prostatic diseases, and if treated early you will live longer. Doctors at KMC have done a good service by arranging this Free Screening which will surely benefit many”.

Dr GG Laxman Prabhu also briefed in details about the Prostatic diseases, before the screening/checkup was conducted. Dr Sanman K N compered the formal function. The Urology department doctors who were at the helm of the screening/scanning/consultations etc at the Camp were Dr GG Laxman Prabhu; Dr K N Sanman; Dr Ranjith Shetty; Dr Prajwal Ravinder; Dr Tushar Dhani; Dr Basavaraj Ugran; Dr Anand Ravindra Baid; Dr Rony Jacob; Dr Girish H M; and Dr Ms Annie Elizabeth.
