Former Indian Cricketer Azharuddin to inaugurate MPL 2016
Mangaluru: “Former Captain of Indian Cricket Team Mohammed Azharuddin will inaugurate the Aimuzain Whitestone Mangalore Premier League Cricket Tournament on 17, December 2016 at B R Ambedkar Stadium, NMPT, Panambur.
Now the NMPT stadium is all set for MPL with the natural turf at the outfield and Astro Turf on the pitch. The matches will be held from December 17 to 30. Lighting arrangements are being made by installing 8 lighting towers of 50 feet height around the ground”, said the organiser of MPL Siraj in a press meet held at Hotel Deepa Comforts here on December 9.
Speaking to the media persons Siraj said that the tournament will be inaugurated on December 17, at 4:30 pm by Mohammed Azharuddin in the presence of Zakaria Jokatte of Almuzain, Sharif B M of whitestone and Ismail of Realtech company, Cricket Administrators/Players and renowned guests from India and Abroad. As a part of the entertainment programme, a Russian fire dance will be performed. A dance performed at the hip pop dance championship at Las Vegas America by Blitz dance troupe of Manipal University will be performed during the inaugural programme. There will also be a Laser Show, Dragon Dance, Tall man Show and Fireworks. After the inaugural ceremony, an exhibition match between the Tulu Cine Stars team led by Arjun Kapikad and the team of MPL organisers will be held.
The teams taking part in the tournament are Redhawks Kudla, Team Elegant Moodbidri, Kankanady Knight Riders, Karavali Warriors Panambur, Karkala Gladiators. President Sixers Kundapur, Maestro Titans, Spark Evengers Bolar, Coastal Digest, Surathkal Strikers. United Ullal and Udupi Tigers. These teams are now playing trial matches in Manipal, Nehru Maidan, Moodbidri, Karkala, Suratkal and other grounds as a preparation for the MPL.
Speaking on the occasion Tulu Cine Star Arjun Kapikad said, “We are preparing for the exhibition match to be held on December 17. Our team is very serious about the MPL exhibition match. When we were young we used to play cricket but after joining the film industry I do not get much time to play cricket. Now we are really practising hard to give a good performance on December 17. The coastalwood team consists of Arjun Kapikad, Roopesh, Sachin, Avinash, Suhan, Saurabh, Ashish, Rakesh, Arun Shetty, Anurag and Nagraj.
Speaking on the occasion MPL organiser MPL Imtiyaz said, “In this tournament, K C Cariappa, Shivil Kaushik, Akhil B, Appanna, IPL players and 38 KPL players are representing the 12 MPL teams along with the local players of Mangalore Zone.
