Former Land Owners to Get Compensation on Adalat Day, Sand Ban from June 15

Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim held a press meet at his office here, on June 9.

Addressing the mediapersons, DC Ibrahim said that on June 11 at 10 am, the district administration has organized a meeting with all the landowners whose land has been acquired for the widening of the four-lane NH 66 (17) from Nanthur to Talapady and Suratkal to Mulki, covering 17 villages and towns. He further said that out of the land owners who have received compensation, 376 have appealed for arbitration to increase the compensation and an order has been passed for the increase in compensation to 296 landowners. “We have already dispersed the increased compensation to 87 landowners, but after the order, many landowners have not come forward to claim the compensation,” said Ibrahim.

To disburse the compensation, the “National Highway Land Acquisition Compensation Adalat” has been organised on June 11 at 10 am at the Mini Vidhana Soudha Mangaluru. Landowners should attend the Adalat and claim compensation on that day. The officers from the Revenue Department and the Land Acquisition Department will visit every village and town, and collect the necessary documents and information from landowners so that they receive the compensation on the same day.”

He further said that 56.72 hectares of land has been acquired for the widening of the National Highway. So far, the compensation has been given for 34.51 hectares of the acquired land. “We have to pay Rs 53.62 crore compensation for 900 Khatha holders. On June 11, we will pay the compensation through the Adalat. We will also send notices to the landowners to attend the Adalat and claim the compensation. If the land owners will not get the notice before the Adalat, we will take necessary measures to see that the landowners receive compensation,” he added.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that from June 15, there will be ban on sand mining and extraction. The ban will be in effect since fish breeding season is on during the months of June, July and August. The ban will remain in effect till August 15.
