Udupi: “The Bunt community is a role model to others, if they take up any work, they don’t rest without completing it and their unity is the reason for their success”, said former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde.

He was speaking after inaugurating the World Bunts’ Sammelana (Convention) 2018 organised by World Bunt associations in association with Udupi Bunts Association at the Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Hall premises on Sunday, September 9.

Santosh Hegde further said, “People of the Bunt community have emerged as leaders in various fields. They have also fought against injustice and upheld righteousness. This conference is organized to recall and preserve the tradition, culture and heritage. There are still poor families in the Bunt community. It is the duty of the Bunt Community leaders to work for their development. I am always ready to join hands for such activities”, he said.

Addressing the gathering Shree Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Shree Gurudevadatta Samsthanam said, “In the Bunt community women have equal rights. Before the Constitution came into existence in our country, the Bunt community had eliminated gender discrimination and inequality. The community became a role model for all other communities”.

Shree Gurudevananda Swamiji further said, “The Bunt community is another name for leadership. The Bunt community is renowned for giving qualitative leadership. The community is totally involved in the development of the nation. The community has played a vital role in the development of the Cultural, Education, health and Banking sector. Empowerment of the community is possible when there is unity. Culture can be preserved only if the language is preserved”, he said.

Vishwa Santhosh Bharati Swamiji of Barkuru Samsthana said that the next generation should be aware of the ethics and ideas of the Bunt community. The Bunt community should lay due emphasis on protecting its glorious culture as well as unity. No society or community can progress if it shies away from its culture and tradition.
