Four Including Retired Soldier Arrested in Theft case, 224 Grams Gold and Rs 30 Lakh Recovered

Mangaluru: “Four persons including a retired soldier were arrested in connection with the house theft case in Idya, Suratkal on September 18, and recovered 224 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 30.85 Lakh cash from their possession”, said police commissioner Vikas Kumar in a press meet held at the Police Commissioner’s office here on September 22.

The arrested have been identified as Naveen alias Lokanath, a retired soldier, Santhosh from Belthangady, Raghu and Amesh from Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala.

Addressing the mediapersons, Vikas Kumar said, “On August 17 the accused entered the apartment of Vidya Prabhu through the Balcony and decamped with Rs 51 lakh cash and 224 grams of gold. In connection with the case, Raghu and Amesh were arrested by the Suratkal police on September 15. When the police continued their search for the other accused, the arrested accused revealed that the Apartment Secretary who had served in the armed forces for 15 years and retired was the mastermind behind this theft. At present Naveen is working as a manager in a wine shop, and the other accused Santhosh from Belthangady is working as a waiter in the same wine shop. The police have arrested both Naveen and Santhosh.”

Vikas Kumar further said, “Vidya Prabhu owns a Petrol Pump, and her husband had expired recently. As she was alone, Vidya Prabhu was not permanently residing in the flat. Naveen was residing in the same building from the past three years and was well aware of where Vidya Prabhu was staying. Naveen, along with the other accused, entered Vidya Prabhu’s house through the Balcony and decamped with gold and cash.”

The police have recovered 224 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 30,85,710 cash, a car and two-wheelers which were used for the crime from their possession.
