Four Teams Formed to Investigate Ashraf Kalayi Murder Case – ADGP Alok Mohan
Mangaluru: “Those who are involved in the murder of SDPI leader Ashraf Kalayi and responsible for the recent Communal issues in Kalladka and Bantwal will be seriously dealt with. We have formed four teams to investigate the Ashraf murder case. We will arrest those who have murdered Ashraf and also those who are behind it,” said the Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), Alok Mohan in a press meet held at the Police commissioner’s office here on June 22.
Addressing the mediapersons ADGP Alok Mohan said, “In DK district the law and order situation was good, but the recent communal issues in Kalladka and the murder of Ashraf has created fear among the people. The IGP and SP have camped in Bantwal. Four teams are investigating the cases in different angles. We will find out those who have murdered Ashraf and also those who incite communal violence.”
Alok Mohan further said, “Every team is investigating this case in different angles. Once we arrest those who had murdered Ashraf, we will be able to arrest those who are behind it. We are focusing on every case. The recent incidents are not a good development for the district. The police department will investigate all the incidents thoroughly. In Dakshina Kannada district there are able police officers who perform their duty well. But the recent incidents demand to further strengthen the police department”.
Alok Mohan also said, “We have clues about the murder. We will investigate this and we will not spare anyone, all those involved will be arrested. We have also deployed additional police force from Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Karwar. There are 6 platoons in the city, in addition to the District Armed Reserve Police. We have also brought the DAR from Chikkamagaluru and Udupi to the district. We have sufficient police force to deal with any situation.
When questioned about the protest to be held on June 24 in Bantwal, Alok Mohan said, “We don’t have any idea about the protest. Till 27 June we have imposed section 144, with the section 144 in place, more than 5 persons cannot gather in one place. Religious functions will not be affected. We need to ensure the people that those who are involved in the murder will be arrested. We are taking additional preventive measures such as keeping a watch over those who have criminal records and people who are communal elements. We are concerned about these incidents. Within a short time, three incidents have taken place.”
When asked about the transfer of SP and sending the Additional SP on leave, Alok Mohan said, “This is the part of the policing in the district. It is the decision of the government to transfer. To bring the law and order situation under control the government has taken the decision”.
