Fr Mahesh Death Case: High Court grants Conditional Bail to Mudarangadi GP President David D’Souza
Udupi: The High Court of Karnataka on April 16 granted a conditional bail to Mudarangadi Grama Panchayat president who was arrested in the Fr Mahesh D’Souza principal of Don Bosco School Shirva suicide case.
The Shirva Police on February 26 had arrested the president of Mudarangadi Grama Panchayat David D’Souza in connection with the suicide case of Fr Mahesh D’Souza. David had applied for bail in district court, but the Udupi district and sessions court rejected the bail petition on March 9.
After five months, the police had arrested Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat president David D’Souza, in the suicide case of the assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva, Fr Mahesh D’Souza.
Based on the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, Kaup police filed a suo motu case and arrested David D’Souza. Police sources said that during investigations they discovered that the deceased priest was in contact with David’s wife over the phone and David had resented this many times.
On the night of October 11, 2019, David had threatened to report about Mahesh’s behaviour. Thus, David abetted the suicide of the priest. David was remanded in judicial custody.
Fr Mahesh D’Souza principal of Don Bosco English Medium School and also the principal of Shirva Don Bosco CBSE School was found dead in the principal’s chamber on the night of October 11, 2019.
A case of unnatural death was registered in the Shirva police station. There were protests in Shirva on November 2, 3 and 5.
