Free Allergy and Chest Disease Screening Camp at KMC Hospital Attavar

Mangaluru: Asthma is one of the most prevalent respiratory diseases worldwide. The prevalence of asthma worldwide is around 200 million with a mortality of around 0.2 million per year according to a consensus statement developed under the World Health Organization. Though the prevalence is more in the developed countries, the developing countries have a higher total burden of the disease due to differences in population. In India, the estimated burden of asthma is believed to be more than 15 million. The findings of the International study of Asthma and Allergies in Children shows childhood prevalence of 12% in parts of South India.

The most common symptom is wheezing. This is a wheezy or whistling sound when you breathe. Other symptoms include Shortness of breath, Chest tightness or pain, Chronic coughing, Trouble sleeping due to coughing or wheezing. Asthma symptoms may be worse during exercise, when you have a cold or during times of high stress, at night or early morning, after heavy meals or associated dyspepsia and abdominal bloatedness and during certain seasons.

The Department of Pulmonary Medicine at KMC Hospital, Attavar will organize a Free Screening Camp at its premises from 21st, 22nd & 23rd July 2016 between 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.

People suffering from a chronic cough due to excessive smoking or exposure to domestic smoke are the first victims of COPD and hence, should get themselves checked. Besides patients having complaints of repeated cough, frequent running nose, sneezing, wheezing, difficulty/uneasiness in breathing, blood in sputum, chest pain wheezing, asthma, tuberculosis or any other respiratory related ailments can avail free consultation service through this camp from the Pulmonary Medicine Specialist.

Furthermore, in order to do a complete evaluation of the patient, the patients visiting the camp will be offered 20% discount on PFT, X- Ray, CT Scan and 10% discount on Lab Investigations.
