Mangaluru: Free hearing consultation service at Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, KMC hospital, Attavar on account of World Hearing Day.
Hearing impairment is a hidden disability. Most of the people with hearing loss can be managed with hearing aids. However, people with severe to profound hearing loss have additional difficulty. Recent advances in technology has made high-powered hearing aids possible, which can help such individuals. In addition, these people can also use assistive listening devices that connect digitally to their hearing aids and provide more amplification.
Hearing through both ears is called as binaural hearing. Binaural hearing has advantages in terms of improved speech understanding in quiet as well as noise, improved identification of sound source, improved ease of listening and improved quality of life. Hence, it is best for each child or adult who is having hearing loss in both ears to wear hearing aids on both ears. Even for people who have cochlear implant on one ear, it is recommended that a powerful and compatible hearing aid is worn on the other ear, to avail benefits of binaural hearing.
On account of World Hearing Day, Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology at KMC Hospital, Attavar, Mangalore, is organizing a free hearing consultation service on 2nd of March 2019 between 9 am and 3.00 pm. Also, there will be a talk on the benefits of binaural hearing and recent advances in technology of hearing aids for severe to profound hearing loss between 11.00 am and 12.00 pm.
