“Engineers are visionaries they create jobs for others” – Chetan Krishnaswamy
Mangaluru: The Freshers Day was celebrated at the campus with Chetan Krishnaswamy, Country Head- Public Policy of Google India as the chief guest. Karan Rao, Founder and Director, Giznu Tech and Sagar Modi, co-founder and CEO, QUIPH were also present during the occasion. Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi welcomed the gathering and Chairman, Manjunath Bhandary in his opening remarks stated that this is the day where we should take up goals; achieve them by doing our best and attain success in the coming years. He advised the students to take the guests as role models. He said that ‘engineers are visionaries; they create jobs for others’. He also added that one needs to be enrolled in project-based learning along with academics.
Chetan Krishnaswamy delivered his address and stated as to how Google looks at product development and also said that User privacy is of utmost importance to Google. It focuses more on light weight offline version of the product. He advised the new entrants to be extremely open, transparent as information flows from all the directions and also emphasized on being result oriented/outcome driven. He mentioned that having good writing and verbal skills is essential along with building one’s own strength. He concluded saying that one should be dynamically collaborative and have key attributes with essential abilities to face the challenges in the World outside.
Krishnaswamy also had an interactive session with the faculty members’, where he discussed regarding the perspectives of development of Google and its focus areas; he also explained regarding the policy decisions. He emphasized on the role of companies in building technologically advanced futures.
Chetan Krishnaswamy engaged with policy makers, industry associations and members of civil society. He was earlier Director -Corporate Affairs at Dell India and steered the company’s efforts in the public policy space. Chetan won the prestigious Intel Achievement Award – the company’s highest award for driving an industry-wide initiative to influence the Central government in reducing tariffs on PCs in 2004. Chetan was also the recipient of Intel’s Finance Achievement Award in 2005. That year, he also won the Intel Inspire Award when his abstract “Enabling Growth Influencing through Strategic Partnerships,” was selected among 400 other entries which he presented at the Intel Inspire Conference at Oregon.
Michal Queeni D’Costa, Achiever in UPSC Examinations was felicitated by Chetan Krishnaswamy. Michal Queeni thanked the college management for honouring her during the occasion and shared few of her thoughts and experiences. She also congratulated all the new entrants on the occasion of Freshers Day and advised the students to understand the concepts in engineering in the process of shaping their career.
