Friendly Get-togethers will Help Build Communal Harmony – Pejawar Swamiji
Udupi: “Due to many pre-scheduled programmes this time, we could not organize the Iftar get-together. For communal harmony between religions, Iftar is not the only way. We will organize a get-together for all religions in the coming days,” said Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.
He was speaking to media persons after exchanging Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with Muslim community leaders at the Pejawar Math, here on June 15.
“During the Ramzan fasting days, I was in North India and could not organize the Iftar get-together. In the coming days, we will be organizing a friendly get-together. Not only Muslims but also people of the Christian community will be invited,” he said.
“No one opposed the Iftar get-together this time. Leaders of the Sangh Parivar said that they had no objection in organizing such programmes during Ramadan. But some Hindus had said that what I was doing was wrong. I have still not changed my decision in this regard. There is nothing wrong in serving meals to people of other communities. Our senior Guru has also accepted Padpooja from Haji Abdullah. My only intention is that friendship should grow between all communities and religions. Peace, love, cooperation and harmony must be built in the country. Hindus, Christians and Muslims in our country should cooperate to establish peace and harmony”, he said.
“The exact date for the friendly get-together has not yet been finalized. Hindus and Muslims should work to maintain mutual respect. Get-togethers will help build mutual understanding between religions. There is no political agenda in holding get-togethers. If politicians do it, it is only for the Muslim votes. Our intention is to live peacefully in our country,” the Swamiji added.
