Fringe elements shift venue of Muslim marriage claiming sanctity
Udupi: Fringe elements claiming to be saviors of their respective communities here in Kodi Bengre have stopped a Muslim community marriage saying it would affect their rituals as Muslims consume meat. These right wing elements forcibly changed the venue of a marriage scheduled at the residence of a Muslim giving the reason of Bramhakalshotsava.
The marriage of Yasin Kodibengre belonging to the Muslim community and a resident of Kodi Bengre was scheduled on January 22 at his residence. On Sunday morning the way to his residence was blocked, saying that there is Bramhakalshotsava ceremony of Durgaparameshwari temple and consuming meat would affect the rituals. When others intervened clashes erupted. Finally, Yasin was forced to shift his marriage venue to Hoode masjid as to prevent further chaos.
ASP Vishnuvardhan and CPI Naveen intervened and brought the situation under control.
