Gambhir shares AQI data from giant air purifier

New Delhi: Days after inaugurating the prototype of a first-of-its-kind air purifier in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir on Friday released the new AQI data of the area which shows marked improvement.

While compiling the AQI data for five consecutive days, Gambhir compared the air quality before purification and post that. While the pre-purification AQI hovered between 159-273, the purified AQI hovered between 44 to 91. The compiled data is from January 3-7.

Taking a sharp dig at the ruling AAP, without naming them, the BJP MP said, “Intent combined with action will always yield results! Sharing initial readings of the prototype air purifier installed last week!”

The giant air purifier was rolled out as a test case on how the capital’s air quality woes can be fixed.

The tower aims at treating 600,000 cubic meters of air per day, collecting more than 75 per cent of two kinds of pollutants — PM 2.5 and PM 10 — and then releasing purified air to create a bubble of fresh air around.

Speaking at the launch event, the cricketer-turned-politician had said: “Fighting Delhi’s pollution is my top most priority and we are working on several such initiatives.”

A few months ago also, EDMC bought machines and sprinklers worth Rs 70 crore when pollution was at its peak. This air purifier is a prototype.
