Games Officials Play! National Highway from Kulur to NITK and beyond getting Repaired Just in Time during Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu’s Visit to City to take part in the 17th Convocation/Diamond Jubilee-year Convocation Ceremony of National Institute of Technology Karnataka-Surathkal on 2 November 2019.
Mangaluru: Just like when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Mangaluru City as part of election campaign in April 2019, all the roads which he traveled during his City visit, including Maravoor on the way to Airport got repaired, and similarly, when Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, is visiting the city on his way to National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) for taking part in the 17th Annual Convocation/Diamond Jubilee -Year on November 2, our beloved Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, has issued orders to the concerned authorities of PWD/NHAI to start repairing the dilapidated NH road from Kulur to NITK and beyond, at the earliest.
During a meeting held on 30 October with PWD and other concerned officials the DC had clearly stressed that the said road gets repaired within the next two days, prior to India’s VP visit to Mangaluru. At the meeting Yashwant, the PWD executive engineer had said that the work will start soon in coordination with the officials of National Highways Authority officials, including the road leading to Circuit House, Kadri-Mangaluru”. And during the meeting, Dr P S Harsha-City police commissioner, Roopa M J -Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Umamaheshwar Rao- NITK director, V V Rao- Director of Mangalore International Airport, among others were present.
But just look at the double standard games our district officials play in order to please the Vice President of India, so he could have a smooth ride, instead of the bumpy ride on these pathetic roads filled with potholes, or let’s call them, CRATERS? For the last so many months before and after the months, when this stretch of road was completely potholed and damaged, no one cared to repair it- but now during VP’s visit to the City, the officials woke up to show their keen responsibilities? Bah humbug!
Now in order to facilitate the smooth flow of VP’s motorcade, on this stretch of NH road, our “DEDICATED??” officials have now shown their keen interest and dedication, not to satisfy the common people, but the VP of India. All these months they were not worried about the hardship tax-paying motorists were facing travelling on this dilapidated road. But it absolutely doesn’t make any sense to repair this NH from Kulur to NITK, when it’s raining outside- and by pouring some loose jelly mixed with concrete will last only until the return journey of VP. Seems like sheer MADNESS? But whose money are our officials wasting on such shabby work, in order to have a pleasant road ride of the VP?
When activists demanded and even when mega protests were held by many other organizations, asking the concerned administration officials to repair this NH road, all they got was a negative answer saying “WE DON’T HAVE FUNDS AT THE MOMENT, AND ALSO DUE TO RAINY WEATHER NO WORK CAN START”. Well said the officials, but how come all of a sudden, that Funds were available now to start the repair work, and also that work is going on in spite of rainy weather?? Don’t you all think that our officials are fooling us and playing games? And if our officials are only worried of the roads during Netas visits, it would be nice if PM or VP of India, or Governor of Karnataka, among other top VVIP’s, make frequent visits, so that our pathetic potholed roads and NH’s get an EXTREME-MAKEOVER!
It would be nice if our MP Nalin Kumar Kateel takes our VP of India around the Kankanady Pumpwell vicinity so that the potholed roads in that area could get fixed, and also there could be chances of getting the Kankanady Flyover completed soon, after being there incomplete for over a decade. On second thought, if the Kankanady Flyover was on the Airport road, it would have not taken over ten years to complete-it would have been done by this time, when all these BIG GUYS, who arrive by flight take this route. Unfortunately, Kankanady flyover being out of the way from the Airport road, it is taking its own time to materialize- and our so called “Number One” has done nothing but making fake promises- and his assurance made on this flyover being inaugurated in May 2019, was yet another joke?
On a final note, anyways, nothing much can be done when we have OFFICIALS WHO PLAY GAMES- India will be India for the next few hundred more years, when we could see real changes in the system-until then we the citizens will have to keep our fingers crossed until we see a Real Difference and a Real Change.
