Ganapathi Suicide – High Court Dismisses Plea for CBI Probe
Bengaluru: The high court on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking a CBI probe into the suicide of Mangaluru DySP M K Ganapathi in Madikeri earlier this month.
The petition had been filed by B H Chandrashekhar and others. The division bench with Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath said that it would not like to exercise its discretionary powers in the matter.
The state’s additional advocate general argued that a court in Madikeri had already ordered a probe as requested by Ganapathi’s son, Nehal. The Madikeri police had filed a FIR and were pursuing the matter.
Besides, the CID too were holding an inquiry, while also a judicial probe had been ordered by the government. At this stage, it was not necessary to have a CBI inquiry, he said. The bench upheld his argument.
