Gandhi Shilp Bazar – a Nat’l Handicrafts Mela in City 2-11 Dec
Mangaluru: “Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, a National level Handicrafts Mela will be held from 2nd to 11th December 2016 at Woodlands Hotel, Bunt’s Hostel Road, Mangaluru. Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi and organized by “Cauvery”, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited”, said Jacob D’Souza- Assistant Director, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corp. Ltd (KSHDCL) while addressing the media persons at a press meet held at the Mangalore Press Club.
He further said, “100 master crafts persons from various states across the country are participating by displaying their exclusive and exquisite handicrafts and handcrafted textiles to sell directly to the connoisseurs of arts and crafts in Mangaluru City. The artisans from across the country will be bringing their skillfully produced artifacts for a common marketing platform at Mangaluru. This will enable the artisans to comprehend the complexities of retail marketing”.
Also speaking during the press meet, Mohammed Salauddin- Marketing Manager for KSHDCL said, “The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar will be inaugurated by Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Constituency on Friday the 2nd December 2016 at 5.00 PM. J R Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru (South) will be presiding over the function, in the august presence of Kamalamma (Magadi), Chairperson, KSHDC Ltd., Bengaluru. A C Vinayaraj, Corporator, Mangaluru City Corporation and Rajeevi R Rai, Director, KSHDC Ltd., Bengaluru will grace the occasion as Chief Guests.”
The dazzling and colorful craft varieties of Dhokra castings, Stone carvings, Palm leaf engraving and applique works of Orissa, Carpets, Durries, Tribal Jewellery, Lac Craft of Bihar, Woolen carpets, Jute crafts of West Bengal, Cane and Bamboo, Sitalpati and Terracotta crafts of North Eastern States, Miniature Paintings, Papier mache from Rajasthan, colourful embroidered shawls, Papier mache of Jammu and Kashmir, Pearl Jewellery and Crochet lace of Andhra Pradesh, Sandalwood carving, Wood inlay of Karnataka, Chola bronze, Stone carvings, Wood carvings, Kora grass mats of Tamilnadu, Rosewood carvings and fiber-based crafts of Kerala, Zari, Chanderi Sarees, Phulkari, Madhubani Paintings etc. are some of the creations that will be on display and sale for art lovers of Mangaluru.
The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is open to the public on all days from 2nd to 11th December 2016 including Sundays from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
