Gandhi’s Message still Relevant in Today’s World – P C Vishnunath

Udupi: The birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated by Udupi district Rajeev Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane on Tuesday, October 2.

The programme began with Vandematharam, Roshani Olivera district co-ordinator of RGPRS welcomed the gathering.

P C Vishnunath general secretary of All India Congress Committee inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and paying floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

In his message, P C Purple run-001 “Gandhiji was a symbol of self-denial, self-accountability, simplicity, and sacrifice. The ideals and preaching’s of Mahatma Gandhi are still relevant. He called upon the Congress workers to adopt the principles of non-violence and religious tolerance as preached and practiced by the two leaders. People should protect the country’s secular credentials and integrity and not allow communal elements to divide the society”.

Vishnunath further said, “The vision and teachings of the father of the nation remind humanity of the true values of harmonious co-existence and mutual respect and the need to work together for equality and freedom of all individuals.”

Vishnunath also said  “Today in India a party is trying to tamper the country’s constitution. The Country’s constitution and its institutions like the Election commission and Supreme Court are under threat. The Congress workers should be ready to give an answer for all of this,” he said.

Udupi district minister in-charge Dr Jayamala in her message said, “Mahatma Gandhi is relevant for all time. Gandhiji was given the title of ‘Father of the Nation’ for his relentless hard work that helped India to attain freedom through non-violence. By remembering him on this day, we should pay tribute to this great leader”. She called upon youngsters to pledge to adopt his way of life and principles of empathy, humbleness, honesty and sincerity.

Udupi CMC, Kundapur and Karkala Municipality and Saligrama town panchayat candidates were felicitated on the occasion.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, district Congress president Janardhan Tonse, KPCC member G A Bava, Veronica Cornelio, Naveen D’Souza, AICC member Amrith Shenoy, Rakesh Malli and others were present.
