Glamorous Celebrations Mark Fr Muller Hospital-Thumbay 5th Anniversary in Zeal
Mangaluru: “We come to comfort and to heal, to love and serve in woe and weal; Let the name Augustus Muller proudly write in gold; Flame across Karnataka’s vast and Bharat’s millions hold, In admiration of his zeal whose vision bright and bold; In Mangaluru’s fair bosom raised its home of peace untold. Hail! dear home where tender care beguiles disease and pain; Where love divine inspires and lifts the failing heart or brain; Come all who soothe in ways unsung Humanity’s unrest. Let’s all as one, with love pursue the toil by millions blest.”-these thought-provoking lyrics from the Father Muller Institutions Anthem speaks in volumes the services provided by the Doctors, Nurses and Staff to the suffering Humanity at Father Muller Hospital-Thumbay,{FMHT} for the last FIVE years since its inception, and 1 May 2018 was the BIG Day of Celebrations to mark the Glorious Fifth Anniversary, with the motto “Comfort and Heal”!

Richard Aloysius Coelho; Fr Roshan Crasta and Dr Kiran Shetty-Administrator and Medical Superintendent of FMHT respectively were other dignitaries on the dais.
The Happy and Joyous celebrations began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer dance performed by the staff of FMHT, followed by welcome address by Fr Roshan Crasta, where while introducing the guests and welcoming the august gathering, he also mentioned that “FMHT since its inception on 1 May 2013 has grown from a simple general hospital care to multi-specialty hospital with state of the art facilities, with the motto “Heal and Comfort” and slogan “We Care For You At Every Stage”. Ours is a hospital having 150 beds, provides service in General Medicine, Pediatrics, ENT, Dental, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Physiotherapy, OBG, Cardiology, Radiology, Homeopathy, Orthopedics, Anesthesiology, and Psychiatry.
“FMHT renders remarkable preventive and promotive health care at the doorsteps of the community to the suffering humanity with compassion and respect. Today while we celebrate FMHT’s 5th Anniversary we thank the Almighty for showering His blessings on us in making us reach greater heights in such a short period of time. It is indeed a matter of joy and pride for me to be an administrator and all the tireless effort of each one you is appreciable. The dedicated team of our doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel have strived to provide high-quality, affordable and personal health care that respects the needs and dignity of each person served. I am grateful to Dr Kiran Shetty-Medical Superintendent, Fr Richard Coelho director FMCI, Sr Theresa Pereira-Head/ In-charge of Nursing Dept FMHT, and all the doctors, nurses, and all ancillary staff of our hospital for their dedicated service. I take this opportunity to lovingly remember our former director late Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues for the vision he had for this hospital. May God bless you all” added Fr Crasta.
Lighting of the traditional lamp and release of the balloons into the air by the dignitaries on the dais marked the inauguration of the prestigious 5th Year Anniversary celebration, which was followed by the release of the fifth edition of the ‘Fr Muller Hospital-Thumbay ‘ Magazine by chief guest Dr U M Bhushi. On the occasion, three persons namely Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital-Mangaluru; Dr Kiran Shetty- Medical Superintendent-FMHT; and Sr Theresa Pereira- Nursing Dept In-Charge FMHT were felicitated for their dedicated and committed service towards FMHT. Addressing the audience, chief guest Dr Bhushi praising FMHT for their service to the suffering humanity in the area said, “More than healing touch and treatment through medicine, Patients need something more, the touch of heart. And only when we touch the hearts of the patients, we could see transformations. People are not looking for hospitals, instead, they want real transformation. And I feel proud to say that FMHT is doing that. Although my association and that of Sahyadri College with FMHT has been not so long, I already feel that I am part of this hospital family, and I cherish my association with this institution. And I want to keep our relationship strong in the future years too. FMHT has already made a difference in the community here and will do better in the years to come.”
Following the release of the Special FMHT Health Card Scheme, in his presidential address, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr ALoysius Paul D’Souza said, “Fr Roshan Crasta, Dr Kiran Shetty and Sr Theresa, along with other crew of this hospital are the pillars for the growth and success of FMHT. Our hospital motto is Comfort and Heal, and to serve those poor suffering humanity”
“In the Bible, we are told to serve the poor, downtrodden and the sick who desperately need help, and that’s exactly what Father Muller hospitals are doing. FMHT last year alone has given nearly Rs 64 lakh free medical aid to the needy, and till date, Father Muller Charitable Institutions have contributed Rs 35 Crore worth of free medical aid to the poor. And that’s how we reach to help those in need of healthcare. Pope Francis has urged Catholics worldwide to bring to the sick and needy “the Lord’s own gaze, full of tenderness and compassion,” reminding the Church of her “maternal vocation” to them. And FMCI has taken Pope’s message seriously in taking care of the needy in their health needs. Now that we also have Health Card, people should avail all the benefits that the Card has to offer. Since 45 years FMCI has been taking care of leprosy patients at the Leprosy Centre at Fr Muller Hospital, Mangaluru. My sincere compliments to the entire fraternity at FMHT for taking this hospital to higher standards and earning name and fame in the community. A job well done”, added the Bishop.
Director of FMCI, Fr Richard Coelho also speaking on the occasion said, “We would like to thank Bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza for his constant support all these years, he has been a guiding source of inspiration to all of us at FMCI for decades. Today, May 1 being a Labour Day and also the Feast of St Joseph the Worker- Joseph is the patron of many things, including the universal Church, fathers, the dying and social justice. On this Day today, we are all labourers and God is our Boss/Employer. In order to please our Boss, we need to perform our duties to the best of our abilities and capacities. And for that matter, the entire Management, doctors, nurses and staff of FMHT have done extremely good work, to keep this hospital running successfully.
Fr Coelho further said, “In its journey of FIVE years now, Father Muller Hospital Thumbay has always stood firm on its central mission of providing quality healthcare services, mainly to the rural and disadvantaged poor people. Its core values embraced the principles of excellence in service and collaboration with local leaders and other stakeholders. Our aim is to improve the health of our community every day and our slogan, “We care for you at every step“. To accomplish this, we remain current with facility and I am pleased to say that Father Muller Hospital Thumbay is now equipped with all the state of the art facilities. Our dream of Thumbay is to reach to the un-reached, to love the unloved and care the un-cared and to serve the marginalized and less privileged people of the society. Kudos to the entire team of FMHT, and my prayer to all those who visit Fr Muller Hospital-Thumbay, that you may find peace, joy and solace.”
