Glittering and Glamorous Graduation Ceremony Honors A J Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AJIMS/RC) Newest Doctors

Mangaluru: A graduation ceremony is a pageant celebrating the transition from student to graduate and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their life. The function commenced with the entry of graduates in a beautiful “Graduation March” by the way of traditional pattern with flowers and balloons all around followed by the dignitaries of the occasion. And now as these graduates emerge out of the campus and look forward to serve the community, they will be of great asset to the needy patients who are anticipating their dedicated and professional services. As it is said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. An attitude of absoluteness is the basis for everything.

All these graduates dressed to thrill in their graduation gowns, and who were about to receive their certificate and medal were all beaming with smile and pride as they were ready to enter the hall for the big celebrations, amidst their teachers, parents and college-mates.The Graduation Day and Annual Day Celebrations of A J Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AJIMS)- Mangaluru, was held on Friday, 16 March 2108 in the College Auditorium. Dr Sasikanth Senthil IAS, the DC of DK was the chief guest, while the guest of honour was Dr Thimappa Hegde- Director-Narayana Institute of Neuroscience- Bengaluru, and presided over by Dr AJ Shetty -President of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust (LMET). Prashanth Shetty – Vice President, LMET; Dr Ashok Hegde- Dean, AJIMS and RC and Prof Dr M Ramesh Pai -Former Dean, AJIMS. Smt Sharada J Shetty- Director, LMET; Smt Ashritha P Shetty- Director, LMET also graced the occasion.

The Graduation Ceremony began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song rendered by students-Sowmya Iyer, Poorna Prasad and Neelanjana, followed by welcome address by Dr PP Devan-Professor and Associate Dean of the College. The Annual Report was delivered by Dr Ashok Hegde, followed by inauguration of the ceremony by lighting the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries on the dais. “He that imposes an oath makes it, not he that for convenience take it”- and it was the honor for Dean Dr Ashok Hegde to convey the ‘Hippocratic Oath’ to all the graduates, who all repeated after him, with pride, dignity, with gratefulness, and recapitulated it, committing themselves to their respective noble professions.

India’s former President Late APJ Abdul Kalam once said, “Dreams is not what you see in sleep, but is the thing which doesn’t let you sleep”- and he also said, ” The future belongs to those who believe in these dreams”- and now it was time to honor all the graduates with a medal and graduation certificate – while the names of all the graduates were read by comperes of the evening-Dr Vishwas K Pai ( (dept of ENT) and Dr Deepthi VH (Dept of Psychiatry), everyone walked to the stage to be honored by the chief guest, guest of honor and Dr A Shetty. It was time to honor the graduates who have topped in the entire MBBS, with the President’s Gold Medals, instituted by Dr AJ Shetty-the 1st Overall topper was Dr Vijayashree KM; Overall IInd topper-Dr Akarshith B; and Overall IIIrd topper was Dr Pooja R Uppoor.

Chief Guest of the day Dr Sasikanth Senthil in his speech enlightened the graduates that they are the true ambassadors of the AJIAS to alleviate suffering, inspire and innovate their service through integrity, compassion and loyalty. ” What a day, isn’t it? Absolute fabulous-the music, march, smiles-just amazing. Even I was overwhelmed by emotions. Congrats, graduates. Now once you get out of this college, you should not forget it, instead be grateful and remember it forever, because it was this institute which made you what you are. All of you full-fledged graduates in your respective profession who have now stepped into your fertile and promising various fields, as full-fledged professionals would be competent to provide professional care to the sick and needy. Utilize your talents and knowledge that you gained from your college. Be ready to help someone who is in need of medical assistance.”

“Not all of us are alike. We all have different characters, styles, etc- Wisdom is a gift, Kindness is a choice- once you start serving the society you need to be kind and caring. Start to break things, and youngsters can do it -and specially the backbenchers know it. Ladies you should also break things-go change things. Don’t always stand in front of the mirror, where you will see only your image-instead stand near the window and you will see the outside world. There may be hurdles in your future life, but try to overcome them and look for success. You have all picked a wonderful profession, where the world will depend on you. As they say next to God, is the doctor-so be proud of your profession, and make a difference in the society” added Dr Senthil.

Following the presentation of meritorious awards, RGUHS awards, and Toppers Awards, guest of honour Dr Thimappa Hegde in his address to the audience said, “Yes Doctors can the perspective. Think of one person who made you doctor-they are your parents. And remember for a doctor, a patient is an important person. It’s the patient that creates a doctor. Never look for money, instead work with dedication, commitment and sacrifice. Every patient that come to you is like a God-treat him/her like a God/Goddess. You need to grow to the fullest potential. Aim big for the future, and strive hard to make your dreams come true. Just like bright star was seen in the sky when Jesus Christ was born, similarly there was a shining star in the sky when you were also born. From that new born child, you have now grown to be a doctor. Go into the world and serve with pride and dignity. Best of luck”

Also speaking on the occasion, Dr AJ Shetty said, ” At our institution we place great emphasis on helping the students to grow into thoughtful, responsible adults with a strong sense of right and wrong. The chief guest and guest of honor were felicitated on the occasion. Following the presentation of sports awards, the Graduate Year Book was released. Felicitations was done to various heads of departments, and also to General Secretary Dr Vaman Nayak, a token of appreciation. In their valedictorian speech of their journey revisited, on behalf of the graduates Dr Spoorthi Holla and Dr Sanjeev KM expressed their feelings and experiences during their tenure as students at AJIMS/RC, and through their few words of wisdom encouraged the fresh graduates not to loose hope and instead look for the best in their careers that they had chosen. Following the presentation of mementos to the dignitaries on the dais, the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Kamalaksha Shenoy-Prof and HOD of Radiotherapy. Following a photos session of the graduates, it was time for some sizzling and scintillating cultural programme, and simultaneously everyone feasted on the sumptuous dinner.

In conclusion, as you prepare to launch into the real world beyond college, let me take a moment to congratulate each and every one of you. No matter what your circumstances in life — where you live, the family you were born into, what happened to you as a young child or a college student that was beyond your control, but now is the time to step forward into your own true self and begin the chapter of life that is truly yours for the making. Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars to challenge the world. Hope your dreams take you to the corners of your smiles, to the highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities, and to the most special places your heart has ever known”- Congratulations, Graduates and Success galore!
