‘Go Green Ride’ by WERC and Manipal School Marks World Environment Day
Mangaluru: To mark the World Environment Day, the We R Cycling club (WERC) in collaboration with Manipal School organized the Go Green Ride from the School campus Attavar here, on June 29.
The ‘Go Green Ride was flagged off from the school campus at 7.00am. The Principal of Manipal School Anuradha Shivaram flagged off the ride. The ride was led by Brijesh the founding member of WERC.
A senior member of the cycling club Harnish Raj briefed about the ride. The students arrived at the school with their colourful sports uniform along with their bicycles to take part in the ride.
The weather was pleasant with a spattering of rain now and again, teachers, parents and the expert riders from WERC led the students along the roads of Attavar – Mangaladevi and Falnir that were just waking up to the morning traffic.
The students re-grouped at Mangaladevi Temple and performed a ‘nukkad natak’ highlighting the environmental issues. They chanted slogans like “Pedon ka na apmaan karo pedon ka samman karo”, Curious passersby stopped and watched the performance and cheered the students for their efforts.
The riders were back in school right in time for their morning classes at 8:30 a.m. It was a morning well spent for the seventy odd riders who said that it was a wonderful experience and was something that they would want to repeat.
