Golfer Vani grabs fifth title of Hero women Tour

Bengaluru, June 24 (IANS) Continuing her impressive run, ace golfer Vani Kapoor produced a successive wire-to-wire performance in the ninth leg of the Rs 6,00,000 ($8,800) Hero women Tour, to clinch her fifth title of the season here on Friday.

The Delhi golfer came up with her eighth consecutive under-par round on the Tour, as she carded one under 70 to bag the title at the Clover Greens golf course here.

Vani’s citymate Gauri Monga finished second with a total score of 217, followed by Amandeep Drall and Saaniya Sharma in respectively third and fourth positions with scores of 219 and 222.

Hero order of merit leader Vani led the field from the very first round and never looked back, winning by a huge margin of 10 shots.

She started impressively, carding a birdie on the very first hole and added three more to her tally on the ninth, 12th and 15th holes. Her bogeys came on the seventh, eighth and 17th holes. She finished the round with a total score of 207 after 54 holes.

Gauri played an even-par round of 71 to take the second spot. Her round included two birdies on the first and 13th holes with an equal number of bogeys on the ninth and 11th, to finish with a total score of 217 after the final round.

Panchkula’s Amandeep carded one over 72, which included three birdies on the eighth, 12th and 18th holes with bogeys on the fifth, seventh, ninth and 15th.

Saaniya was far from her best in the final round. She had an indifferent start and carded bogeys on the third, fourth and 10th. She also had a triple bogey on the ninth hole, but birdies on the sixth and 17th improved her score line. She returned a card of four over 75.

Pune girl Shweta Galande could not replicate her second round performance and finished fifth with a total score of 223.

Her card of five over 76 on the day included two birdies on the 11th and 14th holes, and four bogeys on the third, fourth, 12th and 18th. She also dropped three shots on the eighth hole.

Ankita Tiwana and Neha Tripathi finished tied sixth with a total score of 224, followed by Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal in eighth position with a score of 229.

Mehar Atwal and Afshan Fatima finished tied ninth with identical totals of 234.

The tour will now move to the KGA Course here for the 10th leg next month.
