Gopal Bhandary files nomination papers as Congress candidate of Karkala
Karkala: “I don’t have any money and community power but have wide support of my voters and they will bless me in the assembly elections in Karkala, ”said Congress candidate Gopal Bhandary.
He was speaking with media persons on Friday, April 20 before filing the nomination papers as Congress candidate of Karkala Assembly elections.
“In my 40 years of political career, I have maintained a clean image and have fought against social injustice. The party High command has given me another chance to contest the elections. After my defeat in the last elections, I did not sit at home but have helped the poor people. People will recognize my work and will decide who is best for the assembly constituency for the next five years”, he said.
“This will be the last Assembly polls I would contest. Some recent incidents have saddened me. I have worked sincerely for the party for the last 40 years. I have faith in the people. Despite these events, I am certain I will win,” he said.
Bhandary was accompanied by Janardhan Tonse district Congress president, G A Bava KPCC president, Vignesh Kini district Youth Congress general secretary, Block Congress president Neere Krishna Shetty, Sudhakar Kotian and KPCC secretary Bharath Mundodi who walked from the Rajeev Gandhi Bhavan to Mini Vidhana Soudha in Karkala to file the nominations papers.
It may be recalled that a large section of Congress workers are unhappy and have been demanding that the ticket should be given to Muniyal Udaykumar Shetty, vice-president of the Udupi District Congress Committee.
Prior to the filing of the nomination papers, Gopal Bhandary visited Karkala Venkataramana Temple and Attur St Lawrence Basilica and sought the blessings of God.
