Government gifted ‘Suicide Bhagya’ for sand labourers – Kota Srinivas Poojary
Udupi: “The State government has introduced a new scheme the ‘Suicide Bhagya’”for labourers working in the sand business, said the former minister and MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary. He was speaking during a protest held in front of DC Office Rajathadri Manipal against the failure of the State government. The protest was organized by Bharatiya Janata Party Backward class Morcha Udupi district on Tuesday, October 25.
The district administration and the state government have totally failed to address the grievances of the construction workers, labourers and other people involved in the industry. The laborers are jobless for the past six months. The district minister in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj has not responded to the issue. A Sand labourer committed suicide in the Kota Police station limits. Due to the negligence of the District administration and the state government, the labourer ended his life, the administration is responsible for it, he said.
The MLC, warned that if the district administration fails to clear the problems of Sand mining in three days, the Morcha would itself involve in sand mining and distribute the sand to the poor and needy, he dared the district administration to arrest and imprison the BJP members.
The poor people are struggling to get the land title deeds in the district. Under 64 C and 94 cc a total 16000 applications were submitted. Out of 16000 applications 162 in Karkala, 300 in Udupi and 438 in Kundapur Taluk were cleared. The district administration has totally failed to give justice to the poor people, he added.
BJP leader and MLC B G Puttaswamy accused the Congress government of failing to meet the expectations of the people and implement the programmes announced in the budget.
The Congress government has utterly failed in providing good governance in the State. Siddaramaiah had announced 1276 crores in the 2015-16 Budget for the people of the backward class and Utilized only Rs 125 crore. The government has not provided new hostels for backward class students in the state, he added.
Later protesters met the Additional DC Anuradha and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy commissioner.
