Governor Vajubhai Vala acting like BJP Puppet and Misusing Power – Vinay Kumar Sorake

Udupi: The Udupi district Congress on Thursday, May 17, staged a protest at the War Memorial Ajjarkad condemning Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to invite Yeddyurappa to form the government while neglecting the claim made by the Congress and JD(S) despite having the numbers.

Addressing the protesters, former Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake criticising the decision of the governor and calling the 15 day time period given to the BJP to prove majority as unprecedented, said that this decision would lead to ‘horse trading’ of the Congress and JD(S) members by the BJP. “This move is anti-democratic and daylight murder of the democratic system,” he said

“The BJP and the Governor of Karnataka have murdered democracy and used the law for their personal gains. They will definitely be punished for this by the people of Karnataka. The truth shall triumph,” said Sorake.

He cited various examples in recent history where BJP was invited to form the government in different states along with its post-poll coalition partners and condemned the Governor for not doing the same in Karnataka.

He also alleged that the Governor was acting like a “BJP puppet” by giving Yeddyurappa 15 days time to “convert” the number from 104 legislators to 111. “This decision is a murder of democracy and has been taken under pressure from prime minister Narendra Modi and the BJP national president Amith Shah,” accused Sorake.

“Having no majority in the House, it is just a caretaker government. It cannot take major decisions till it proves its majority. The waiver of farm loans was not meant for implementation, but rather for publicity,” he continued.

Earlier the agitators tried to take out a procession from the Congress Bhavan to the War Memorial. They raised slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Modi and condemned governor Vajubhai Vala’s action. The protesters opposed the governor for granting the BJP 15 days to prove the majority in the Legislative Assembly.

Former MLA U R Sabhapathi, District Congress president Janardhan Tonse, vice president Prakayath Shetty, KPCC Secretaries Veronica Cornelio, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, Congress leader Rakesh Malli, Harish Kini, M A Gafoor, Prashanth Poojary, Ramesh Kanchan, Sarasu Bangera, Sunil Bangera, Shivaram Shetty, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Sarasu Bangera, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Sathish Ameen, Naveenchandra Shetty and others were present.
