Govt allocates Rs 20 Crore for infrastructure development in Baikampady industrial area: K J George

Mangaluru: The state medium and major industries minister K J George said that the government would allocate Rs 20 crore this year for infrastructure development at the Baikampady industrial area.

He was speaking with the representatives of industrialists, peoples representatives and various organizations on Saturday at the Canara Small Industries Association Hall in the City, he said that the government has already released Rs 10 crore for developing the infrastructure.

The KIADB had submitted a proposal seeking Rs 59 crore for developing infrastructure. Infrastructures will be upgraded in a phased manner, he added.

Industries should open up for technological changes and apply new technologies to continue in this competitive era. In this regard, George suggested entrepreneurs to develop new technology in their industries.

George, further, said 543 acres of industrial land allotted to Jesco in 2001 has remained unutilized all these years. Of the 543 acres, 160 acres has been allotted to the Coast Guard by the government. Land is also identified for setting up the Rapid Action Force (RAF) base in Mangaluru. Another 50 acres of the Canara Industrial Land at Mudipu will also be inspected for the RAF for setting up of their base.

“The KSIA had submitted a memorandum to allot the remaining Jesco land as industrial plots for MSMEs, electronic hardware park, logistics park, low-cost housing for workers, international exhibition centre, common ETP solid waste management plant and Greenbelt park road. I had asked them to submit a concrete proposal including private players willing to develop the industrial parks. The project needs to be submitted before the court,” he explained.

Former MLA J R Lobo demanded an Express Highway to Hassan. Mega industries should be set up in Hassan and Mangaluru should be developed as a service centre for the mega industries in Hassan, he added.

MLC Ivan D’Souza appealed to the minister to allocate 100 acres of land to small-scale industries in Mangaluru.

MLC Harish Kumar, Deputy Mayor Mohammed Kunthatbail, Corporater Purushotham Chitapura, Social Worker Vidya Dinakar also spoke on the occasion.

Industries Department Commissioner Darpan Jain, KAIDB CEO Shivashankar, Joint Director Gokuldas Nayak, Canara Small Industries Association President Gaurav Hegde, representatives of entrepreneurs and societies were present.
