Udupi: The government of Karnataka is committed to promote women empowerment, with policies being formulated to enhance self reliance in women, said Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge District Vinay Kumar Sorake. He was speaking after inaugurating Women’s Day Celebrations organized by the District Administration jointly with Zilla Panchayat, Department for Women and Child Welfare here on March 8.
To promote political participation among women, GOK has raised 50% reservation for women in local bodies. The grant given to Self Help groups will be raised to rupees 25000 from 5000, CM has announced the same during the convention. KSFC is extending loan to women entrepreneurs who want to setup industrial units. loan is extended at 4% interest rate from Rupees 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Self help groups are playing a major role in boosting self confidence in women.
The GOK to curb violence and atrocities on women is setting up women police station in the headquarters of the district, he added.
