Govt to Offer Free Tailoring Courses for Women with Stipend – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: “The alignment of the National Highway is still not done, the road from Mangaluru – Nanthur – Moodbidri to Karkala is in a pathetic condition. In the last twenty years, this national highway was only upgraded to 169 NH. This highway has the 5th highest vehicular movement. From past 20 years, only the nameplate has been changed but the road has not been repaired by the PWD. More than 40-kilometers of this road is filled with potholes and the road is not fit for vehicular movement. We have staged a protest on the Gurupur bridge since the bridge is also in a pathetic condition. The British had constructed this bridge 94 years ago which is now in very bad shape and may collapse any time,” said chief whip Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his office, MCC premises here on December 1.

Addressing the mediapersons Ivan D’Souza said, “The government has announced to make this into a 4 lane highway but the NHAI authorities say that they are not aware of it and do not have any information in this regard. From the past 10 years, Nalin Kumar is representing the people as MP. What is he doing? Even Shobha Karandlaje and D V Sadananda Gowda are from our district, why they are not showing any interest to repair the national highway? In the session in Belagavi, during the zero hours, I had raised the issue of repairing highway since it takes two hours to travel 40 Kms on this road. It is also very difficult for the ambulances and emergency vehicles to ply on these roads, and in many cases, patients have died because of the bad road. Many people have lost their lives due to accidents on this road. BJP leaders are wasting time in delivering speeches and criticising the Congress government. By criticising or delivering speeches the road will not be repaired.”

Ivan further said, “In Dakshina Kannada district due to the closure of Beedi industries many women have lost their jobs and are facing financial crisis. To rehabilitate them by providing alternative jobs, I have discussed the issue in the session for more than three hours. The government has assured to start garment industries in every taluk. The government will start Tailoring courses for 45 days with a Stipend of Rs 3500 during the training. After the training, they will be provided jobs. Those who are willing to start their own business will be provided financial support. Already 8 garment industries have started operating in the district and 289 people have been provided with jobs.”

Ivan also said, “From the past two years I have been organizing the Christmas celebrations. This year we are celebrating ‘Sauharda Christmas 2017’ at the Kankanady Market grounds. There will be competitions like carol singing, crib, Christmas cake, Star and Santa Clause etc. Winners will be given cash prizes. The competitions will begin on December 21 at 4:30 pm. Mayor Kavitha will preside over the function and the District Minister In-charge, Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme. Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister U T Khader and Oscar Fernandes will grace the programme. Religious leaders will deliver speeches on the occasion.”
