Grand Mangaluru Sharada procession ends with immersion of idols
Mangaluru: The 96th year Mangaluru Sharada oldest among Sharada Mahothsava’s in Mangalore procession which began from Shree Venkataramana Temple Acharya Math Carstreet premises here at 8 pm on Saturday, October 20 and culminated with the immersion of all the idols at the Mahamaya temple pond at around 6:30 am on Sunday, October 21.
The procession, carrying the idols of the goddess Sharada, on the shoulders (Bhuja Seva) by volunteers was accompanied by various vehicles carrying tiger dancers, performers, etc.
Various performances had been lined up for the occasion were erected at Navabharath and Newchithra junctions. A large number of tableaux accompanied the procession which moved through the pre-determined path, and all the streets it passed through were lined up by people on both the sides.
A huge crowd of thousands of people assembled to witness this once-a-year event. Although there was the apprehension of rainfall, the rain god had mercy on the enthusiastic people who took their places by the roadsides or on the buildings en route the long procession.
