Guanellians to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Dec 7, 2019

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution. This year it was on December 3 and the theme was “Leave no one behind”

It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life

The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. It was originally called “International Day of Disabled Persons” until 2007. Each year the day focuses on a different issue.

Guanellians to celebrate IDPD on December 7, 2019

For the past 13 years, Guanellian Preethi Nivas (GPN) has been celebrating the IDPD on the first Saturday of December. This year the event will be held on the 7th of December. On this particular day of celebration, we will bring the differently-abled people to our home, providing them with a scrumptious lunch, entertaining them and providing gifts for their daily use. In this programme, there will be over 1000 people (mostly children) with disability from 43 various institutions and NGOs along with around 600 volunteers.

Guanella Preethi Nivas located at Geddalahalli, Bangalore-77, is a charitable institution under the registered society (The Guanellian Society, No. 121/87). It aims at serving the poor and needy people especially the aged and orphans. At present, in this locality of Geddalahalli Hennur region it exercises charitable activities in various ways possible such as Don Guanella Home for the Aged, Guanella Oratory for Children, Guanellian Corporators(GC), Guanellian Lay Movement (GLM) Guanellian Youth Movement (GYM) and Guanella Evening Classes (boys and girls).

Don Guanella Home for the Aged has been a home from 2007 for the abandoned people who have no one to care. This programme is run with the contribution of the Guanellian Corporators (GC), Guanellian Lay Movement (GLM) members and benefactors.

Guanella Oratory for Children is an educational programme for poor students.  It aims at providing space for poor 200 children of our region so as to have socialization, entertainment and moral education along with nutrition and educational monetary help. We are able to run this programme with the support of some of the local friends.

Guanella Tuition Center (boys and girls) is an evening school programme. It aims at providing ambience for games and entertainment along with some nourishment followed by supervised study and regular classes for 50 poor children of our region.

We do all these charitable activities only with the help of the local people and above all with the bounteous help of God, the Almighty.
