Guinness Record Holder Prithvish K Creates World’s 1st Rubik Cube ‘Ganesh Idol’
Guinness World Record Holder Prithvish K of Pethri, near Udupi, joined by his Brother, Pradeesh K Creates a innovative World’s First ‘Lord Ganesh Idol’ using reusable 250 Rubik Cubes at “My Friend Ganesha’- a idol making contest held at Bharath Mall-Mangaluru on Sunday, 27 August organized by Happy Hearts-Mangaluru under the leadership of Soujanya Hegde- Winner of “Mrs Popular” at Haute Monde Mrs World India 2017.
Mangaluru: It was in the year 1974, that Rubik’s Cube, a 3-D combination puzzle game was invented by Erno Rubik, the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture. It went viral as a puzzle the world over, and became a fad even in India. The puzzle has fascinated the world since then and there are several quests to find the fastest fingers first! The record as of now is a mind boggling 5.5 seconds.
But here in our own Coastal district, we have a genius in creating miracles using Rubik Cube- and he is none other than Prithveesh Bhat, born on 23rd Dec. 1995, who is the son of K Shyam Prasad and Prasanna Prasad residing at Pethri near Udupi, and currently doing his Master of Engineering in SOIS, Manipal University, Manipal. At a state level competition held a while ago, Prithveesh was able to align the colors on all six sides of the cube (which is the essence of the puzzle) in under a minute, in fact, in 38 seconds flat, which is no mean feat. And on his achievement he had said, “I want to develop even more expertise and aim to try doing it blind folded”.
Prithveesh K, who was then a final year Electronics student of SDM Engineering College, Ujire on October 2, Sunday had entered the Guinness Book of World Records by creating separate pictures on two sides of a Rubik’s cube by using as many as 4,500 cubes, at the Indraprastha Auditorium at Ujire, where he had created images of “Charlie Chaplin” and “Mr. Bean” on two sides of the Rubik’s Cube. A total of 20 students of “SDMIT Cubers’ Team joined hands with Prithvish in helping him set the Guinness Record. His unique work was graced Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala who had visited the venue, and appreciated the great efforts of Prithveesh. Later the cubes which were used to create the Guinness Record was distributed to school children as solving Rubik’s Cube puzzles go a long way in improving the concentration power of the students.
On that day of October 2, 2016, the world record winning feat had took almost five hours for the team of students led by Prithvish- and the team used a total of 4,500 cubes of 5.7 cm thickness. By noon, they had created pictures measuring 4.33 meters in height and 3.46 meters in width, measuring in total 14.981 square meters. The feat that was videographed as per norm was verified by Vivek Prasad Mada, Shivaprasad Ajila, PWD engineer and Ganapathy Bhat Kulavarma, principal, Government First Grade College. The video and the certification by the trio was sent to Guinness office in London, which after verification recognized it as largest dual side Rubik’s cube mosaic. Prithveesh also holds India Book of Records and Unique World Record to his credit.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Prithveesh said, “I received the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Record authorities on February 15, 2017. The mosaic was constructed vertically and depicts the images on both the sides of the walls using 3x3x3 Rubik’s cubes only. The image of Charlie Chaplin and Mr Bean was represented on each side. The mural was 15 feet high and the team began working on it from 7.30 am and completed it by 2.30 pm. Our team members consisted of Prithveesh K, Sharathkrishna K, Viresh S B, Shanthinath B K, Shiva Kumar T, Vinay T, Swapnil A, Prajwal Patil, Prahlad M M, Harikrishna V, Sathwik S P, Stephen K A, Madhur, Karthik M, Mallanagoud Meti, Sujay S, Sanjay Holla, Rohan, Shayeel S Naik, and Shiva H”.
The team spent Rs 4 lakh to set up the record, and almost all the expenses was borne by Veerendra Hegde. Incidentally, the Guinness record for the largest Rubik’s Cube mosaic measures 277.18 m² (2,983.54 ft²) and was created by Josh Chalom of the USA who unveiled it at One Central Macau, China on December 7, 2012. The mosaic depicted an image of some famous views in Macau. There are 85,626 cubes were used to create the mosaic. The mosaic measures 68.78 m (225 ft 7.87 in) by 4.03 m (13 ft 2.66 in). Team Mangalorean caught up with Pritveesh K, who along with his brother had taken up the gauntlet of making a World’s First Lord Ganesha Idol made out of Rubik Cubes, at the “My Friend Ganesha” – idol making contest held at Bharath Mall on Sunday, 27 August 2017.
And since it was such a unique creation, the judges at the contest had no other choice than to award them with the First Place in the open category – and both the brothers deserved it for the efforts and creativity that they had put in making such a eye-catching Ganesha figure. Even though the media has been carrying news about Ganesha idols being made out of paper, biscuits, sand, and other materials- this Ganesha Idol is quite eco-friendly, where the idol is not immersed in the water, instead the idol is dismantled and the Rubik Cubes are reused for a better purpose.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Prithveesh said, ” In my engineering education this has nothing to do with my puzzle solving abilities. Practice is what it takes, and I learned howto solve the puzzle months ago and eventually practiced the art (or the science as his book on the subject reveals) repeatedly over the last several months, each time bettering my own time. The Rubik cube is not just puzzle but it’s a miracle invention. It’s a simple 3D cube, which hastens and sharpens the brain, and hand and eye coordination. It helps to improvise concentration level and even the memory power. It can be called as ‘mind game”. Prithveesh never fails to attract the curious viewers wherever he plays this mind game, despite the fact that mind games such as these are not popular in India. Most Indians are into video games on their smart phones.
He also said, ” Naturally, the Rubik’s puzzle is not a favorite, especially now that the fad has faded. I especially want to introduce the magic of puzzle to the rural children and help them to develop brisk intellectual activity. One should know that there is no age limitation for solving Rubik Puzzles and it can even keep elderly people mentally agile. For couple of years I have been practicing to solve various kinds of Rubik Cubes and I have trained more than 2500 students through workshops held at Mangaluru, Cherkady, Dharmastala, Puttur, Udupi, Cherkadi, Pethri and many other places.”
“The Rubik’s cube is a 3D toy invented 40 years ago but many of them are least knowing regarding the solution to it. I first solved it 4 years ago and studied thoroughly the solution for it and used simple memory technique to help the kids. Rubik Cube mainly improves “Brain-Hand-Eye” coordination level. By solving the cubes one can improve concentration power and memory power too. In 2015, I wrote a book named “Rubik Magic”, which was released by Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, which contains a set of easy memorizing formula’s for children to solve the Rubik Cube by themselves. Last year I had helped rural kids to solve the cube by giving free-workshops.which reveals a simpler way to solve the puzzle. I have achieved a National Record in India Book of Record for “Most students trained in solving Rubik Cubes in a year”. I’m now interested to train more students and develop many speed cubers from our region.” added Prithveesh.
Adding feather to his cap, Prithveesh received the Honorary Doctorate from World Records University, Regd. under Govt. of UK on March 05, 2017 for his talents and achievements, during a convocation held in Haryana- and now he is addressed as Dr Prithveesh K! Apart from this he has current record titles in Assist World Record, World Records India and Unique World Record. The final frontier for him? “Breaking the world record is my dream”, he says. For that matter, he is interested to break another existing record of Tony Fisher, the creator of varieties in puzzle, The World’s largest Rubik’s Cube. (1.56 meters -a little over five feet). And he says that he will attempt it by December 2017 as soon as he get a few sponsors and stage for the display.

And the best part is that his younger brother also has followed in his elder brother’s footsteps, and also wants to achieve big in his talents of his own. Pradheesh K , the younger brother, studying in 2nd yaer PU in Viveka, Kota is a Speed painter, and also a finalist of Putani Phantru reality show of Suvarna Channel. And yesterday, (Sunday 27 August) both the brothers together build a innovative reusable Idol using 250 Rubik’s Cubes for the first time in the world that was Lord Ganesha Idol in Bharath Mall, Mangaluru on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on 27th August 2017 and secured first place in our category.
Team Mangalorean wishes Prithveesh K all success in his future attempts in Rubik Cube feat- and hope that he will beat some of the past records held at other genius persons. Best of luck and success galore!
