H1N1 is Viral Fever can be cured with Timely Treatment – DHO Dr Ramakrishna
Mangaluru: “H1N1 is a viral fever which can be cured with timely and specific treatment. The symptoms of H1N1 are high fever, sore throat, cold, cough with yellow sputum, lethargy, severe vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty in breathing. If you happen to see the above symptoms in your family or neighborhood, take them to the nearest government hospital or selected private hospitals and get them treated. It is our responsibility to control the spread of H1N1”, said the District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna in a press meet held at the district Health office here on October 17.
Addressing the mediapersons Dr Ramakrishna said, “If anyone has a fever, cover your nose and mouth while coughing and sneezing with tissue paper or handkerchief. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after touching the nose, eyes and mouth. Get adequate sleep and manage stress effectively keep yourself physically active. Take rest and plenty of fluids. Eat nutritious food and enhance your immune system. Reduce time spent in crowded areas, wear a mask and keep a distance of at least 1 meter from the people having the symptoms”.
Dr Ramakrishna further said, “So far four people have died because of H1N1. In Mangaluru we have tested 260 cases and found 6 cases to be positive. 29 patients are being treated in KMC and SCS hospitals of which 23 have completed the treatment. In Sullia we have tested 6 samples all have been negative. In Beltangady out of the 37 samples tested 1 has been positive. We have formed an audit committee to monitor the death cases due to H1N1 and by Monday we will get the audit report on the number of deaths in the district.”
