Hai Indianwallah Chor Hai! Indian Family Caught with Stolen Items from Hotel in Bali by Security
Mangaluru : Only rich Indians with ‘bahuth paisa’ can take a vacation and travel around the world- and in the same time, many of such rich Indians have a habit of stealing either from the department stores, shops or from the hotel where they stay. What a disgrace for India, where a video of an Indian family caught stealing a plethora of accessories from a hotel room in Bali -Indonesia has gone viral on social media. The video, which is 2:20 minutes long, shows one of the hotel staff and security scanning the family’s luggage as they were on their way out from the hotel, after checking out .
In the video, a woman can be seen arguing with loud voice with the officials from the hotel who seem to be vigorously going through the suitcases. Apparently, the family had “stolen” whatever they could get their hands on – which included decorative items, toiletries, electronics, towels and so on. The security officials can be seen telling the family that they’d managed to steal ‘everything’ from the hotel room, including hangars and soaps. The problem is that they are well off to do things like that .But aadat se majboor hai! when I used to fly from US to India by Air India, I have seen rich Desi uncles and aunties who travel on business class, who pass orders to the crew to bring this, bring that..as though they’re their personal slaves.
The video was originally posted on Twitter by a user named Hemanth, who wrote “this family was caught stealing hotel accessories. Such an embarrassment for India. Each of us carrying an #IndianPassport must remember that we are ambassadors of the nation and behave accordingly. India must start cancelling passports of people who erode our credibility.” He also wrote about Indonesians being one of the most gentle people and also how they hold Indians in high regard. But this incident may very well be a game changer. I understand this happened in #Bali. Having lived in Indonesia and visited Bali, I can personally vouch for Indonesians being the gentlest, most respectful people I have met. They hold India and Indians in very high esteem and its gut-wrenching to see us in such a compromised position. — Hemanth (@hemanthpmc) July 27, 2019
In response to the video gone viral, there has been quite number of posts on tweeter etc-The video had Twitterati fuming who called the whole incident disgraceful: You can’t steal and say “I will pay” on being caught. Doesn’t make sense at all. — Sarah Hayat Shah (@SaraHayatShah) July 27, 2019
@hvgoenka Tourists like this family spoils the name of our nation and because of them every Indian suffers in the foreign land and faces racism.— Indian Tax Paying Citizen ?? (@TrendanOr) July 27, 2019
This is exactly the reason why Indian railways had the foresight to attach a toilet mug to a chain. But there is still theft of blankets and pillows taking place.@acjoshi knows best.— Halwa-e-Hind (@e_halwa) July 27, 2019

It’s so embarrassing to watch this video from BaliWhat sort of image of Indians are such people portraying to the world? Culture is habits and values that are shared by members of a society. Our culture doesn’t become great by self-proclamation. We must better ourselves! pic.twitter.com/7lRIQUnO3z— Srivatsa (@srivatsayb) July 27, 2019
Here’s the thing, simply offering to pay for goods that have been taken without the permission of the hotel IS NOT OKAY. A lot of Twitter users have been demanding that the family be banned from travelling; while that’s taking it too far, some concerns are valid – that this incident does portray Indian tourists in a bad light. At first, members of the Indian family are seen arguing with the hotel staff. But that didn’t stop the man from opening every suitcase and taking out things that were stolen from their room – such as towels, electronics, decorative pieces and other stuff.
In conclusion, Okay, it’s true that most of us have taken an extra bottle of shampoo or body lotion from the hotel room at one time or the other. But this group of Indian tourists perhaps took things too far, which is an embarrassment for India. As the hotel staff continues to frisk their baggage, a man can be heard stating that he is willing to pay. However, the hotel staff adamantly states that it’s not a case about money, but rather respect. The hotel staff is absolutely right! True – there should be a mark made by foreign officials in such passport and once they enter India, cancel the passport in the immigration and never give them one for next few years.
What a shame? They don’t understand what do they get by stealing hotel items ? If they can afford a holiday outside India then they can easily afford them- then what makes them to steal these things ? This is so shameful, yet so common. People do it out of habit, affluent, smart people. And look at the defiance here , they are so rude to the hotel staff even after being caught. “We will pay” .. throwing money around seems to be the answer for all wrong doings for these people. This is really sad to see and one feels really ashamed while watching the video and thinking like what they might think about rest of the Indians and then question arises is what how would they treat the next Indian tourist will they even them the room?
