Harish Kumar Takes Charge as District Congress Committee President
Mangaluru: The installation ceremony of the newly elected President of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee was held at the DCC office Mallikatta here on July 3.
The programme began with an invocation. Interim President of DCC Ibrahim Kodijal welcomed the gathering.
District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai handed over the party flag and appointment letter to the newly elected president Harish Kumar on the occasion.
After taking charge as the President of DCC Harish Kumar speaking on the occasion said, “I would like to thank the President of the Indian National Congress party Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Oscar Fernandes, Venugopal, Vishnunath, Veerappa Moily, Janardhan Poojary, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar, Abhaychandra Jain for believing in me and appointing me as the president of DK DCC. Today I also remember the great souls of Blasius D’Souza, K K Shetty and Srinivas Mallya who had worked hard to strengthen the Congress Party.”
Harish Kumar further said, “When Minister Ramanath Rai won the elections he had said that during his tenure he will build the party office and it is a reality now. From my College life, I have grown in the party as an ordinary party worker. I have worked for the success of the party from the Booth level. In the last elections, we have won in 7 constituencies out of the 8 but in the forthcoming elections we to focus on winning all the 8 constituencies.”
Harish Kumar further said, “The DCC President’s job is not a bed of roses. It is my duty to strengthen the party from the booth level and prepare for the forthcoming elections. The presidents of their respective wards should work hard to get more votes than the last elections. In our party, we need to utilise our youth to strengthen the party. Other parties form various youth organisations and utilise them for some other work. In our party, we have to utilise our youth force to do good work and win the forthcoming elections. “United we stand, divided we fall”. In Congress, there is no remote control in our party. All the presidents in their own capacity need to strengthen the party.”
Harish Kumar also said, “The DCC president means, he is not the one to take the final decision, senior leaders will guide us and we have to listen to them for the success of the party. I am not an aspirant for the forthcoming elections. My main intention and duty is to strengthen the party from the booth level and to win the elections in all the 8 constituencies. Dakshina Kannada is a very sensitive district, we all need to work hard to maintain peace and harmony in the district.”
MLA J R Lobo, former minister Abhaychandra Jain, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, MLA Shakuntala Shetty, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Suresh Ballal, B H Qader, Sashidhar Hegde, Mamatha Gatti, Shalet Pinto and others were also present.
