Harold D’Souza wins The Liberator Award in America
USA: Harold D’Souza, Hero of “The 2017 Liberator Awards Ceremony”, organized at Columbus, on January 15th, was an evening worthy of the Emmys or Grammys! Dress up, mingle with the finalists at the VIP Reception to celebrate Ohio’s Hero. It was hosted by Theresa Flores and Marc Johnson.
The Liberator Awards highlight and acknowledge Ohio’s leading abolitionists. The Liberator Awards was created by S.O.A.P (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) to unite people from around the state who are working for the same cause: fighting human trafficking. They were also created with the hopes of highlighting the work of amazing individuals and groups. Everyone will tell you: this is hard stuff to do. We should diligently celebrate those who do it not because it is easy, but because it is right. The inspiration and namesake for this event is William Lloyd Garrison.
Harold D’Souza was nominated for The Liberator Award in the month of October 2015. Nominations were submitted for the entire month of October. Nominations were based on; who do you know that has worked to raise awareness, change laws, educate others, or help to stop this crime from happening in the State of Ohio. Voting was open for the entire month of November 2015.
William Lloyd Garrison (December 12, 1805 – May 24, 1879) was a prominent American abolitionist, journalist, suffragist, and social reformer. He is best known as the editor of the first abolitionist newspaper, The Liberator. He promoted the immediate emancipation of slaves in the United States. In the 1870s, Garrison also became a prominent voice for the women’s suffrage moment. Garrison became famous as one of the most articulate, as well as most radical, opponents of slavery.
D’Souza was selected as one of the finalists by popular vote in November. On 15th he was announced as the “Hero” at the Ohio Liberator Awards Ceremony. This award is for a survivor who leads the charge in education, sacrifice and rising above situations to become a force for change.
Harold D’Souza Co-Chair, United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking, believes victims lives matter, survivors voices count, victims live freely and survivors are treated equally.
This common man, true to his beliefs, from Bajpe, Mangalore is a Co-Founder of a non-profit organisation, Eyes Open International, (EOI) focused on bringing education, prevention and empowerment to communities around the world so that they may never experience the exploitation of human trafficking. This dream project EOI is launched with business partner Jessica Donohue-Dioh.
Harold D’Souza is now an inspiration to a common man across the globe.
