HC bars release of Jayachandra till January 2
Bengaluru (dhns): The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday barred the release of S C Jayachandra, the suspended chief project officer of the State Highway Development Project, till January 2, 2017.
The engineer, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, continues to be in judicial custody. The vacation bench of the high court on December 22 had barred Jayachandra’s release till December 29 (Thursday). Justice John Michael D’cunha who heard the case on Thursday, extended the order and directed the prison authorities not to release Jayachandra till January 2.
The ED officials had approached the HC questioning the order of the lower court to grant bail to Jayachandra. Income Tax officials on November 30 found Rs 5 lakh in new Rs 2,000 denomination notes besides other unaccounted-for wealth in his house.
Following this, ED officials arrested him in a money-laundering case. The CBI too arrested him later. The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the state too has registered a case against Jayachandra.
