Heavy Downpour Causes Widespread Damage in Udupi District

Udupi: Torrential rain in the district saw a widespread damage to property, particularly electric poles and houses. The district received heavy rainfall on May 27 night.

The rains brought down the temperature bringing relief from the heat but also caused heavy loss across the district.

Many trees were uprooted due to heavy winds laced with rains in Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala taluks damaging shops, houses and buildings. The power supply was disrupted. Fire service and MESCOM teams visited many places for clearing the trees. Many coconut and arecanut trees have also fallen down.

Tree branches fell on some houses in Kodavooru, Uchila, Kundapur, Malpe, Brahmavar, and Brahmagiri. More than 40 electricity poles were uprooted due to strong winds in the district and power connections could not be restored till evening on Monday.

Many display boards on the roofs of the buildings fell down. Residents said that they had never experienced such severe winds in the past.
