Heavy Rain Impact! Masters Athletics Meet seemed like ‘Kesaru Gadde Ota’ {Slush Field Race} Meet?

Mangaluru: As they always say that never believe or depend on the weatherman or weather Report? Unexpected Intermittent rain came in the way of what promised to be an absorbing Final day of 38th National Masters Athletic Championship going on at Mangala Stadium, sine 12 April, resulting in rainwater standing in most of the areas of the Stadium, making it slushy and hard to walk around. Heavy showers had been forecast for Sunday and they duly arrived early in the morning. It didn’t stop raining at all for awhile during the early morning hours, which made the organizers worry a lot.

Later, the rain did stop raining intermittently post scheduled morning sports events, and the volunteers and groundsmen even got down to work, clearing few water spots and slush areas. But not for long, the rain once again returned with a vengeance and put their efforts to nought. All the puddles, that had been cleared initially, were back on the outfield. A few minutes later, luckily the rain stopped for good around 7 am- and the good thing though is that the ground should soak up all the water quickly on account of the severe hot weather during the past few days, as and when rain stops.

During the early morning hours, the athletes who had showed up for the early morning events had a hard time to move around in the Stadium due to the standing water in various spots, and even to go for their breakfast location they had to take a longer walk from outside the stadium, since the organizers didn’t want to take chances these athletes slip and fall, and also they didn’t wanted slush/dirt to get on to the synthetic track when the athletes walk on it.

Even though the organizers planned this 4-day event to beat the monsoon season which starts soon, but all their efforts were in vain, since the Rain God struck on the last day of the Sports meet, thereby creating bit of inconveniences here and there. But no matter what, being in a true sportsmanship spirit, beating all the odds, the organizers carried on with the morning track/field events, under proper care and safety of the athletes.
