Heavy Rains Damage Mattugulla, Property and Crop Loss Estimated over Rs 290 cr in Udupi
Udupi: The incessant rains have brought untold misery to the Mattugulla Farmers with the standing plants being destroyed due to excess water in the soil.
On September 19 and 20, Udupi district received the highest record of rainfall.
According to Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh, the damage to private and public property has been extensive in Udupi district, and preliminary estimates have put it to be over Rs 290 crores. We have still to get reports from some departments, after that we will be able to give comprehensive figures of the loss.
The district administration has sent a request to the state government to release Rs 40 crore in the interim to carry out necessary relief work. The loss estimates include private properties, public and PWD roads, bridges, schools and college buildings and agricultural properties. At least 132 houses have been completely damaged and more than 200 houses partially damaged.
