Heavy Rains in District leads to increase of Sea Erosion in Padukere

Udupi: Heavy rains that lashed the district from two days, have paralysed normal life in many places. The district received an average of 77.43 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Udupi taluk received 94.7 mm, Karkala 83.2 mm and Kundapur taluk received 54.2 mm of rainfall.

Rain water has flooded houses in various places in the district. Trees have been uprooted and damaged the roofs of houses.

Sea erosion has intensified in Udupi district following heavy rains in the last few days. Roads have developed cracks in some areas in Padukere.

The sea erosion at many places like Tenka Yermal, Bada Yermal, Malpe, Kundapur, Bengre, Kota Padukere, Padubidri and Tenka village in Udupi district has intensified. Many houses are facing danger of being swept away by the sea.

According to the locals, the intensity of the waves has increased in the area in the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, the Fisheries and Ports Division has started placing boulders to arrest the damage and protect the road in Padukere.
