Hejamady and Sasthana Tollgate staffers stage flash strike
Udupi: The staffers of Hejamady and Sasthana toll gates staged a flash strike on Friday and urged their employers to fulfil their demands.
Much to the glee of commuters, the staffers stopped the collection of toll from 4 pm. As a result, Navyug Construction Company suffered a huge loss, sources said.
Sources privy to the development said that about 160 employees went on strike accusing their employers of not paying their previous month’s salary. The protesting staffers also alleged that they were are getting minimum wages promised during their recruitment.
The Padubidri police arrived at the spot and controlled the situation.
The staffers at Sasthana tollgate also did not collect the toll charges accusing their employers of not paying the previous month’s salary.
“We have families and they depend on us. Without the salary, how can we work?” a staffer asked.
Sources said the staffers at the tollgates allowed vehicles to pass without collecting the toll as the negotiations between the staffers and the employers failed.
