Hello! SP Nimbargi Speaking: Receives Good Response in First Phone-In Programme

Udupi: Complaints ranging from Shrill horns, selling of drugs near schools, traffic woes and other issues poured in during first direct phone-in programme organised by the newly appointed Udupi district Superintendent of Police Laxman B Nimbargi here on January 10. Most of the queries were related to rash driving, illegal sand mining, availability of illegal drugs near schools and other issues.

Former SP Dr Sanjeev Patil had started the direct phone-in programme to interact with the general public, study and solve the problems faced by them. The initiative had helped in solving many problems in the district and received appreciation from the public. After his transfer, the new sp Laxman B Nimbargi assured that he would continue the direct phone-in programme.

The SP received 17 calls in his first direct phone-in programme.

One of the callers highlighted the sale of gutka and other drugs near the schools in the Udupi Town Police station limits and appealed for prompt action. SP Laxman replying to the complaint said that effective action will be initiated against the selling of drugs in the district.

A caller from Karkala said that auto drivers were parking their autos in an inappropriate manner which causes inconvenience to the school children. The SP said that the Karkal police will be directed to solve the issue.

Another caller said that shrill horns are still used by bus operators in Udupi and Manipal leading to noise pollution and hearing problems. The caller requested for immediate action in this regard. SP said that the drive is in place to check on the shrill horns in buses and effective action will be taken.

A caller from Kundpaur said that her brother died on November 6, 2017. The police had registered a case of unnatural death but we strong doubts about his death. She appealed to the SP to provide the post-mortem report to know the truth. The SP said that he will check in to the case and give information regarding the matter.

A caller from Kallianpur said that privates buses are parked on roads leading to traffic jam, SP said that immediate action will be initiated.

A woman caller said that the office management has been harassing her at the workplace, SP instructed her to visit his office personally.

The new SP of Udupi or the Police Dept. alone can never solve any problems. Every nature of complaint has an authority that is lax such as the Municipality, the Traffic or Transport Dept., the Ministry of Public Works, etc. Many SP’s have come and been transferred for reasons best known to the Police authority – but problems need only to be contained by conducting a good study and implementing good urgent measures and not relying on State funds or funds from the Center – as these agencies sleep over most civilian necessities and wake up when elections are nearing.… Read more »
