‘Heritage Man’ Vijayanath Shenoy Bags H L Nage Gowda National Award
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Janapada Parishat has chosen Vijayanath Shenoy, founder of the Hasta Shilpa Heritage Village in Manipal for the current year’s Nadoja H L Nage Gowda award.
The award is being given in recognition his immense contribution to the preservation and conservation of heritage structures. His Hasta Shilpa Trust has executed relocation of rare and precious heritage buildings while they were on the verge of demolition.
The relocated structures are spread over six acres of land in Manipal. The Parishat has made a special note of his single-handed, lifetime efforts to set up the village.
The award was announced by Parishat president T Thimme Gowda at a media meet here on Thursday. It was instituted by the Parishat to commemorate its founder, the late ‘Nadoja’ H L Nage Gowda, a distinguished civil servant, folklorist and author.
Gowda had served as deputy commissioner of undivided Dakshina Kannada a few decades ago. He was honoured with the Sandesha award also some years ago.
The award is being given for the second year now. It carries a purse of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and a citation. It will be presented to Shenoy at a function to be held in Ravindra Kalakshetra here at 5 pm on May 14, said Thimme Gowda.
Incidentally, the Parishat had been founded by Nage Gowda himself in 1992.
Sri Vijayanaatha Shenoy fully deserves this award. What he has done over the past 4 decades is one of the rarest achievements and tulunaadu will remember his contribution in preserving our heritage for a long time!! Shenoy never really cared about any award and he was spending whatever money he had in collecting these precious things over decades. I remember reading about his collection when Late Santhosha Kumaara Gulvaadi was the editor of Taranga weekly.
Congratulations Shenoy maam!!
