Herzlich Willkommen (Welcome) to Kudla! Globe Travels Welcomes ‘AIDAbella’-the Cruise Ship with 1100 plus Germans & others Nationalities at New Mangaluru Port on Tuesday 5 December 2017. In 32 Air-conditioned buses, 54 Auto-Rickshaws, and 20 plus Cars, the cruise ship passengers took a sight-seeing trip across the City and beyond.

Mangaluru: Globe Travels which takes pride, having introduced New Mangalore Port to the world of cruise in 1970, and ever since then, the movement of cruises at New Mangalore Port, has increased by 400%. Today New Mangalore Port is having more than 50 cruise ships visiting between October –April every year, and for that matter Globe Travels is one of the Premier and a leading tour operator of Mangaluru city, having handled quite a number of cruise ships during all these years. And today, 5 December 2017, German built cruise ship “AIDAbella” has arrived and docked at New Mangalore Port, with approximately 1200 foreigners of mixed nationals, mostly Germans along Swiss and Austrians alighting to take a trip around Mangaluru City.

This morning, Globe Travels took proud in being the ground handling agents, with nearly 58 team members, including a bunch of staff from the Globe Travel office. Globe Travels being the well known and pioneer travel and tour agents has a credit of introducing Mangaluru to the Cruise World way back in 1970. While most of the passengers opted to take bus trip to Famous and historically important places like St. Aloysius Chapel, Kadri Manjunatha Temple, Gokarnanatha Temple, Artisan Village, local market- a few others took bus trips to Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Thousand Pillar Temple, Dr. Soans Farm, Bahubali Temple, Karkala etc.Apart from this option, a bunch of these foreigners hopped into 54 auto-rickshaws operated by our very own Auto Rajas and enjoyed the “Auto Tuk Tuk”ride across the city, with lunch being served at Hotel Taj Gateway-Mangaluru. A few of the passengers took a ride around the city on bicycles.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, AIDAbella Senior Tour Managers Nicole Weber and Lemie Reichmann said, ” The cruise trip which started from Dubai on 28 November had made stops at UAE, Oman-Muscat, Goa, and reaching Mangaluru today-from where we will be heading towards Cochin etc and culminate in Bangkok on 18 th December. While few of the passengers will return to their respective hometowns, but bunch of them will spend time in the Maldives and other Asian regions during the winter season. Apart from most of the passengers being Germans, there are also Swiss and Austrian nationalities. Everyone had a good time in India so far at the places where we had toured.”

Also speaking to Team Mangalorean, William D’souza, the Managing Director of Globe Travels said, ” We feel proud to say that we introduced the arrival of cruise ships to Mangaluru Port decades ago. This season we will handling approximately 30 plus ships between now April 2018, with nearly 50,000 passengers on these cruise ships taking local tours. We are proud of our achievements and our staff and guides always do a great job in taking care of all these visitors to their sheer satisfaction. We are looking forward for a better season and will do our best to provide these visitors the best hospitality and courteousness while they are here in Mangaluru”.

While the foreigners who took the bus trip to Moodbidri and other places around had their lunch break at Soans Farms in Moodabidri, with catering provided by M D’souza Caterers where the Germans had to take a break from sausages, Bratwurst, Ham, and German delicacies like Sauerbraten, Spätzle, Leberkäse, Maultaschen, Currywurst, Königsberger Klopse etc- instead had to enjoy the Kudla delicacies like- Sanna, Apam, Sevio, Banana Sukha, Chicken Sukha, Anjal (Sear) fish fry, Lamb Curry, Sweet Pulav, Gherkins Cashew, etc- and for desserts they were all treated with Payasam and Gulab Jamun. And those who took the Auto Tuk Tuk trip had a sumptuous buffet lunch arrange at Hotel Taj Gateway- where the hotel management crew Peter Nirmal- General Manager, F & B Manager Noor Mohammed and Reservation in-charge Doreen Patrao provided good hospitality along with other hotel staff.

The Vessel AIDAbella a passenger (cruise) ship built in 2008 at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and currently sailing under the flag of Italy,with 230 m length overall and beam of 32 m, and gross tonnage is 69203 tons arrived here during the weekend. AIDAbella is a cruise ship operated by AIDA Cruises, she is a sister ship to AIDAdiva and AIDAluna. The ship has a passenger capacity of 2,500 and crew 646. The name AIDAbella was chosen after a competition to name the new ship. The name was meant to signify how beautiful the ship is. The ship features 1,025 passenger cabins, many with balconies. Amidships is a circular, glass-walled, and roofed Theatrium in the center of the ship which can be used as a nightclub.
