High Court declines stay on FIR against Nalin Kumar Kateel

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday refused to grant stay on the FIR registered against Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel at the Kadri police station, Mangaluru.
The court said if a charge sheet is filed, it will be a result of the writ petition.

Justice K N Phaneendra was hearing a petition filed by Kateel, seeking quashing of the FIR registered by the Kadri police against him on the charges of obstructing the police from performing their duty on September 7, 2017 when a bike rally was organised by the BJP Yuva Morcha to protest the killing of RSS activists.

The judge said that the court cannot interfere in the investigation.

The petitioner had stated that as a party leader he had questioned the arrest of BJP workers by the police. He had urged the police to release the BJP workers immediately. Kateel alleged that the Kadri police had instead registered a case against him to spoil his reputation. He had sought for the cancellation of all the legal and investigative proceedings against him.
